Validation for Stahl’s CO2 goals
Leather chemicals group Stahl has secured validation of its carbon emissions reduction targets from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Stahl announced last year that it intended to reduce carbon emissions in its upstream supply chain by at least 25% in the next ten years, with 2021 as a base year. It said this target was in keeping with the most recent guidance provided by SBTi.
It had already committed to reducing scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2021 base year.
To date, 145 companies in the chemicals sector have submitted emissions reduction targets to the SBTi, of which 61 have had their targets validated.
Chief executive of the leather chemicals company, Maarten Heijbroek, said SBTi’s validation of these targets was an important milestone on the group’s environmental, social, and corporate governance journey.
“Our targets are ambitious, and rightly so,” he said. “Realising our goal to help create a more responsible value chain starts with being accountable for our own environmental impact, and taking concrete steps to reduce our emissions wherever possible.”
