Coach launches new circular sub-brand

US leathergoods brand Coach, based in New York City has launched Coachtopia, a new sub brand to embrace sustainability and circularity.

Utilising waste materials that would otherwise end up in landfill, the bags, shoes and small leather goods are designed and constructed to be repurposed, recycled or repaired to greatly reduce their environmental impact compared to conventional luxury products. The end result is seen in patch work leather bags, with decorative zipper trims and contrasting colour fringing.

The Gen Z focussed initiative plans to create collaboration programmes to showcase  new talent. In a release, Josh Silverstein, SVP, global marketing, creative and sustainability at Coach and the new head of Coachtopia, called the brand “an agile start-up” and “discovery lab” that offers a “more open-source approach to creativity”.

Fitted with a Near-field Communication (NFC) chip, each product from the Coachtopia label will be traceable through its repaired ,restored and reused lifecycle, providing valuable data regarding consumer behaviour.
