Group brands can choose the materials they want to use, Tapestry says

Tapestry, the parent group of Coach, Kate Spade and Stuart Weitzman, has renewed its supply chain commitment to animal welfare, but has said its brands have the right to determine which materials they want to use.

This comment came at its annual general meeting in mid-November when campaign groups demanded an end to the use of exotic leather by Tapestry brands.

Company secretary, David Howard, said: “It is our belief that each of Tapestry’s brands has the right to determine what materials they want to use, in the full creative expression of their vision and in line with customer expectations and demands.”

But he said the group’s commitment to animal welfare remained strong and that there would be no use, knowingly, of materiel from species listed in the convention on international trade and endangered species agreement (CITES) or the IUCN red list categories.
