The authorities in one of China’s biggest cities, Guangzhou, have announced plans to develop a new, international consumer centre.

Guangzhou recently hosted a global conference on consumer products, with senior representatives of around 400 retailers, manufacturers and service providers from 70 countries and regions taking part. The city authorities announced plans for the new international consumer centre at the event.

Their intention is to develop a new shopping area in the city’s Nansha district, with sectors including leathergoods and automotive promoting their products to local consumers and to tourists from around the world.

Part of the plan will be to encourage major brands to open new flagship stores there and some “targeted preferential policies”, including duty-free shopping, will also be available.
