SLTC conference promises varied sustainability themes

The UK’s Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists (SLTC) will hold its 2023 annual conference and dinner in Northampton on Saturday, April 22.

To start the hybrid conference, to be hosted at the University of Northampton, SLTC has invited Elisabetta Scaglia, chemical and environmental manager from UNIC to deliver the 2023 Procter Memorial Lecture.

 

Other topics on the day will include:

  • Gustavo Defeo, of Ars Tinctoria discussing sustainability and materials with emphasis on the circular economy;
  • Rosie Wollacott-Phillips, Mulberry head of sustainability, discussing Mulberry’s “Made to Last”;  
  • Vikrant Pratap from Qualus  addressing the practicalities of handling polymer spheres in full Scale production;
  • Prof. Ali Elnaeim Musa from the University of Bahri talking about organic combination tannage: An Eco-Benign Tanning
  • Karl Flowers, Technical Director of Authenticae discussing the past and future of leather degradability.

For the first time there will also be a round robin session with final year students of the Institute for Creative Leather Technologies (ICLT) with a review of their research papers.

 

A cocktail reception and dinner will be held in the evening.
