Designer to debut leather with new finish at London Fashion Week

London-based designer Patrick McDowell used leather with a new type of finish to develop four items for his London Fashion Week show in February.

He worked with Santa Croce-based leather manufacturer Conceria Sirte to source leather with a first-of-its-kind, naturally-derived, biodegradable finish called Activated Silk L1.

This finish has been developed by biotechnology company Evolved By Nature. It uses molecules from natural silk protein to create biodegradable finishing products for leather and other materials.

Patrick McDowell has used leather finished with Activated Silk L1 to create a bow handbag, a sports bag, a leather puffer coat and a leather jacket.
