Hong Kong relaxes restrictions for travellers

15/12/2022

A prominent newspaper in Hong Kong, The South China Morning Post, has reported that following the recent significant rollback of covid restrictions in China, the Hong Kong government has dropped its testing requirements,  eliminating compulsory quarantine on arrival for international visitors. This opens the way for a return of business events.

Travellers currently arriving in Hong Kong are subject to a much-criticised regime build around daily testing and limitations on activities.

From December 14, all incoming travellers who test negative on arrival will be given a code on a health app showing they have clearance to move around freely. This is welcome news for the international exhibition industry, which has been at a standstill in Hong Kong since early 2020.

Leather event APLF was last held in Hong Kong in March 2019 and has suffered a series of rolling postponements and cancellations. The event was relocated temporarily to Dubai in 2022 and will take place in Dubai again in 2023, complemented by a special ASEAN edition in Bangkok in October this year.

APLF is set to return to Hong Kong in 2024.
