Gucci to open research facility in Tuscany
Luxury brand Gucci is preparing to open a new research centre in the Tuscan tanning district. Chief executive, Marco Bizzarri, announced the initiative in comments he made to Italian industry publication La Conceria during a visit to Lineapelle on September 21.
During his visit to the exhibition in Milan, Mr Bizzarri said he thought having so many specialist leather manufacturers in a relatively small area was a true strong point for the industry in Tuscany and he said it was “no coincidence” that many of the world’s most famous fashion brands source leather and make leathergoods there. “It is the envy of the world,” he said.
He went on to say that he viewed efforts to “nurture this uniqueness and help it grow” as having great importance and explained that Gucci was going to open the new research centre in the coming months to make a contribution to this.
