Kering discusses pathway to sustainability in Vicenza

Speaking at the III IULTCS EuroCongress in Vicenza, Chiara Morelli, Kering Group operations sustainability senior manager gave an update on the progress in their commitment to sustainability, directly referencing Kering group CEO Francois-Henri Pinault as standing at the core of the business with his vision for sustainability, using it as a new driver for business values in the company.

‘Crafting tomorrow’s luxury’ is the name given to the strategy that Kering has developed to help them realise their goal of commitment and responsibility. The strategy is based on three pillars encompassing total supply chain collaboration, environmental care and innovative creation. Relying on scientific data, the strategy aims, by 2025, to measure improvements on actual impacts rather than communications made regarding the supply chain and the environment.

With roughly 70% of group revenues coming from leathergoods and shoes, Miss Morelli was keen to express that Kering care about leather.

“We are working on a fully holistic approach, covering the full production and in the case of leather and leathergoods, this starts at the farm,” said Miss Morelli.

Ensuring that supply chains work responsibly, Kering have implemented auditing practices with partner tanneries and abattoirs and in 2021 they created a €5 million regenerative fund and made further commitments to restore six times the land area that is impacted by their production of leathergoods and shoes.
