IULTCS warns of “serious effect” of new EU restrictions
The International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS) has submitted a formal document to the European Commission to warn it of the serious impact on the leather industry that proposed new restrictions on certain chemicals will have.
In the document, which IULTCS prepared with the help of research and testing organization FILK and of leather chemicals manufacturers Stahl and TFL, the organisation said new restrictions on chromium VI and bisphenols would “seriously impact the leather industry, particularly in the European Union”.
IULTCS said in the submission that the leather industry needed more time to implement the new bisphenol restrictions. And in relation to chrome VI, it said a more detailed study of data and testing methodology was required.
