A project to stimulate job creation, build market links for leathergoods, and work to improve the environmental impact of leather processing has been launched.

The Support to Industrialisation and Productive Sectors (SIPS) project is aimed at promoting green innovative solutions, specifically targeting small and medium-sized enterprises in the leather industry in Zimbabwe and Tanzania.

Target groups for the project include 15 tanneries, 30 leathergoods manufacturers and 15 clusters of 250 individual micro-leather enterprises, representing around 2,500 workers in the leather tanning and leather product manufacturing companies.

The two year project is funded and supported by the Southern African Development Community (SADc) and its partners Solidaridad Network SA trust and Solidaridad East and Central Africa.
