IULTCS announces new sponsor for leather scientist grant
Packer and wet blue producer Tyson Foods will become the sponsor of the Young Leather Scientist Grant in 2023. The International Union of Leather Technologists’ and Chemists’ Societies (IULTCS) offers this grant annually for research projects that address industry needs.
Tyson’s vice-president for hides and tanneries, Mike Larson, said: “We’re pleased to support innovative leather research to help the industry continue to learn, understand and advance. We’re involved in the first step in the leather-making process and are committed to producing high-quality hides in a sustainable and responsible way.”
IULTCS president, Jean-Pierre Gualino, commented: “Without good-quality raw material we cannot produce good-quality leather. We hope that we can attract young scientists who will direct their studies at understanding more fully how best to utilise this valuable commodity in a sustainable way.”
