Tanning group strengthens ties to two football clubs
Somerset-based leather manufacturer Pittards will be one of the shirt sponsors of its local football club, Yeovil Town, when the new season starts in August. The club plays in the fifth tier of English football.
Ties between the football club and the company go back a long way.
Pittards started as a leather supplier to the 20,000 glovers of Yeovil in 1826 and as the town became synonymous with glove-making, hence the football club was nicknamed the Glovers.
Around 125 years ago an ancestor of the Pittard family, Charles Wreford Pittard, was a goalkeeper for Yeovil Casuals, the club’s original name. Over the years, generations of local people have worked at Pittards and also been fans of Yeovil Town.
Under the new sponsorship deal, the Pittards logo will appear on shirt back and sleeves of the Glovers’ kit.
To celebrate the sponsorship deal and to complement Pittards long-standing commitment to Ethiopia, a team there, Saris Addis Sefir, is to play in kit donated by Yeovil Town.
