Free leathergoods care incites Hainan shoppers

Shoppers at Global Premium Duty Free (GDF) Plaza, located in downtown Haikou on the Chinese island province of Hainan, were reportedly offered complementary leathergoods maintenance as part of a wider promotional drive during the country’s statutory Labour Day holiday.

Celebrated every year on May 1, with the time off granted often extending to several days in China, Labour Day is also known as May Day or International Workers’ Day.

Among other incentives to shop, GDF Plaza variously provided its members with the opportunity to experience free wine tastings, nail art services and skincare advice, as well as receive digital coupons, The Moodie Davitt Report said.

Despite the impact of the government’s zero-covid measures on domestic travel, GDF Plaza registered a year-on-year sales increase of 45% for the total Labour Day period, the publication added, with the number of items sold also rising by 49%.
