Two further leathergoods factories and 500 new jobs for Hermès
Luxury brand Hermès has announced that it will open a further two leathergoods workshops in France to support the success of this part of its business.
It will build the new factories close to locations where it already produces its bags and other leathergoods. A new workshop will open in the town of L’Isle-d’Espagnac, near Angoulême, in 2025. This new production site will be close to existing facilities at Montbron, Nontron and Saint-Junien.
A year later, another new leathergoods factory will open at Loupes, just outside Bordeaux. Hermès opened a leathergoods workshop at nearby Guyenne in September 2021.
Between them, the new factories will train and employ 500 new leathergoods artisans. They will take the total number of leathergoods factories that Hermès operates to 24, all of them in France.
The company has opened nine new leathergoods factories since 2010. In that time, its workforce has doubled in number to reach 16,600 in 2020.
