Senlu reveals $30 million investment
Shandong Senlu Tanning (Senlu), based in the Chinese city of Weihai’s Wendeng district, has invested over $30 million in upgrading its technological capabilities since the covid-19 pandemic began, local media have reported.

Certified gold by the Leather Working Group last year, Senlu’s transformation is rooted in eco-minded intentions, its general manager, Dong Xinzhi, said. “If an enterprise wants to develop continuously, environmental protection must go first,” Mr Dong commented.

Senlu has therefore invested almost $2.4 million in upgrading its effluent treatment plant, which has a daily processing capacity of 10,000 cubic metres, as well as a further $4 million in the overall transformation of its beamhouse to mitigate unpleasant odours, for example.

In addition to relying on the advice of its own research team, the company employed “well-known” specialists from Sichuan University, Qilu University of Technology and Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, among others, in an advisory capacity.

Senlu seeks to better connect with high-end global brands following its most recent investments, Mr Dong continued, with the company believing that its upgrading (which remains ongoing) will also further open the door to the European and American markets. In just one year, its processing volume has increased from 450,000 to over 600,000 cowhide sheets, alone, he added.
