Argentina: government bans exports of some meat cuts
The government of Argentina has announced a two-year ban on exports of a number of beef cuts. The ban began on January 1 and will remain in place until December 31, 2023.
Cuts affected by the export ban are whole cattle, half cattle, and hind and fore quarters. The ban applies to fresh, chilled and frozen meat.
On announcing the measures, the government said its aim was to establish a better balance between the domestic meat market and exports.
It said it wanted to establish an overall policy for the meat value chain that would bring about an increase in production, a rise in the cattle population, higher average slaughter weights and higher exportable volumes. The government said its policy would make it easier for cattle farmers to plan.
