Silvateam-JBS project could reduce cattle methane emissions by 40%
Chemicals group Silvateam has signed a partnership with meat and leather producer JBS to examine ways of reducing methane emissions on cattle farms. The partners will work on this project with the University of São Paulo’s centre for animal science.
It is Silvateam’s animal nutrition division that will take part in this work.
JBS chief executive, Gilberto Tomazoni, mentioned the project during a debate on CNN Brasil at the time of the COP26 event in November.
Mr Tomazoni said there was hope the project could lead to a 40% reduction in methane emissions. He added: “People say that if you want to save the environment you had to reduce your consumption of meat. But that’s not necessary. People can continue to have the pleasure of eating meat. Science will deliver the solutions we need.”
