Lineapelle surge prompts hope of ‘big comeback’ for leather

Former president of the International Council of Hide, Skins and Leather Trade Associations (ICHSLTA), Nick Winters, said his group had enjoyed a busy few days at Lineapelle in Milan in September.

Towards the end of the event, Mr Winters said: “Leather is making a big comeback in shoes and furniture.”

Originally from New Zealand, Nick Winters has been based in France since the 1990s, trading hides and skins to “the most demanding tanneries worldwide”.

In 2019, Nick Winters Group was acquired by larger French group Bigard. Then, in 2020, the group acquired its own tannery, buying up the wet blue facility run by Compagnie Européenne de Tannage 30 kilometres north of Angers.
