Seven out of ten bestsellers for furniture e-commerce firm are leather sofas

An online-only, direct-to-consumer furniture retailer, Article, has said enough customers are overcoming any reluctance they might once have had to buy big-ticket items on e-commerce sites to make leather sofas seven of its ten top-selling items at the moment.

Based in Vancouver, the company launched in 2013 and offers furniture to consumers in Canada and the US.

Its leather sourcing manager is Chris Hansen, the former global head of leather at Tata International. Speaking at Tanning Tech in September, he told leatherbiz that Article is using full aniline leather in many of its products.

He explained customers can still see and feel the leather their sofa will be made from before buying. The company will send for next-day delivery an A4-size sample of any leather in its range for customers to check the colour and the feel before committing to buying.
