Grain-fed cattle still have record high share of Australian slaughter

Industry body Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) has said it expects cattle slaughter there to reach 6.3 million for the full year. 

Its projection came after confirmation that Australia’s cattle slaughter in the first half of 2021 was 2.9 million head.

Grain-fed cattle accounted for 45% of the first-half total; MLA said this was a historically high proportion.
