Electric learnings can help aviation and automotive leather makers

The 2021 Aircraft Interiors Expo will go from September 14-16, but online only.

Two major European leather manufacturing groups, Gruppo Dani from Italy and Muirhead from Scotland, will have virtual booths to which to welcome visitors to the event.

In the build-up, Muirhead said aviation was one of a number of sectors that electric propulsion was “rapidly revolutionising”. It added that this made weight an even-more important feature in aircraft interior options.

Its head of sales for Europe and of aviation sales in the Americas, Myles Hobbs, said this presented technical challenges for leather manufacturers, but he said that this applied to the rise of electric vehicles in the automotive market too.

Within parent company Scottish Leather Group, Mr Hobbs said that Muirhead had already shared aviation expertise with automotive-focused Bridge of Weir Leather. He added: “The challenges faced there will no doubt help support us in aviation in return.”
