Automotive exports from China double
Car manufacturers exported 760,000 vehicles in the first five months of 2021, an increase of 103% compared to the same months last year.
Industry body, the China Passenger Car Association, has said that the global shortage of semi-conductors has affected Chinese automotive manufacturers too, but that, because their factories were among the first to reopen for business following covid-19 restrictions last year, they were able to place orders for these key components sooner than many of their competitors.
Analysts have predicted that chip shortages will mean a global reduction in vehicle production in 2021 of almost 4 million units.
