Leather-sector exports from India down by almost 30%
India’s Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has reported export revenues of just under $3.7 billion for the country’s most recent financial year, the 12 months spanning April 2020 to March 2021. This figure represents a fall of 27.4% compared to the previous financial year.
Exports of finished leather brought in $378.2 million, a decline of 27.8%. Shipments of leathergoods earned export revenues $944 million, which was 29.5% down on the figure for the previous year. For leather footwear, the figure for export revenues was just under $1.5 billion, down by 28.6% year on year, while leather garments brought in a little under $300 million, down by more than 30%.
The only category that recorded an increase was saddlery products, which registered export revenues of $186 million, up by 23% year on year.
