Tyson aims for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions

US-based beef and chicken producer Tyson Foods will work with customers, farmers and ranchers to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions across its global operations and supply chain by 2050.

In a newly published sustainability report, it said half the energy used by its domestic operations will come from renewable sources by 2030.

It will update baseline emissions by the end of 2023 to align with limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees, consistent with the Paris Agreement, and will expand its cattle transparency programme.

Group president Steve Stouffer said: “We recognise the importance of sustainable beef production practices that take care of people, the planet and animals. Our goal is to work with ranchers to verify and, when possible, improve those practices so that we can be transparent with our customers and consumers about how cattle in our supply chain are raised.”
