Camera della Moda welcomes signs of recovery
Italian fashion industry body La Camera della Moda has said it believes companies across the sector will achieve a combined increase of 17% in revenues in 2021 compared to the previous year.
During a presentation to promote Milan Men’s Fashion Week in June, the organisation’s president, Carlo Capasa, said a 17% increase would give the industry revenues for this year of more than €80 billion. He explained that this would still be 10% below pre-pandemic levels, but said it gave him confidence the industry would regain pre-covid levels in 2022.
He said the industry had recorded March revenues that were up by 50% year on year, with the figures for footwear closer to 70% up.
Mr Capasa said another cause for optimism was that, during Milan Men’s Fashion Week, a number of brands, including Dolce & Gabbana and Giorgio Armani, would once again be holding runway presentations in front of a physical audience.
