Luxury car company Maserati has named former footballer David Beckham as a new brand ambassador.

He said on making the announcement that he shared Maserati’s appreciation of excellence and commitment to pursuing “the very best innovation and design”.

For its part, Maserati described the former Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and Paris Saint German player not just as a “sporting legend”, but also as a “style icon, businessman and philanthropist”.

It said David Beckham, who is now the president and co-owner of US Major League Soccer club Inter Miami CF, as “the perfect partner as we drive our brand forward into our new era”.
