Pakistan’s finished leather exports fall steeply
Leather industry exports from Pakistan brought in $567.4 million in the first eight months of the current financial year, July 2020 to February 2021. This represents a fall of 4.2% compared to the figure for the same months in the previous financial year.
The country’s tanners shipped 6.8 million square-metres of finished leather over the period, earning export revenues of $97.4 million. The declines are steep: 44.9% in terms of volume and 28.8% in value year on year.
Figures for footwear show exports over the eight-month period of 11.5 million pairs, bringing in revenues of $88 million. This indicates an increase in volume of 11.7%, but a fall in value of 6.2%.
Revenues for other finished leather products, including garments and gloves, rose year on year, reaching $382 million, an increase of 5.6%.
