Pakistan: finished leather exports fall by almost 50%

Pakistan’s leather sector has reported export revenues of $277 million for the first four months of the current financial year, July-October 2020. This represents a fall of 6.8% compared to the same months a year earlier. The figures come from the country’s Federal Bureau of Statistics.

Exports of finished leather declined by 47.6% in volume and by 38.4% in value, with tanners shipping 3.2 million square-metres of finished leather in the course of the four months, bringing in export revenues of $43.6 million.

There was also a fall for footwear. The number of pairs exported was flat at 5 million, but revenues fell by 5.8% to $42.6 million. 

Finished garments and gloves fared better, increasing export revenues by 5.25% to more than $190 million.
