Digital lifeblood for UK-based artisans
London-based Cockpit Makers’ Market will go live on November 26, with the intention to “ignite a creative recovery” for its 144 artisans as the UK enters a second lockdown.
The online-only market will feature more than 500 contemporary craft products, ranging in price from £5 to £5,800, in time for the festive season. Handcrafted leather bags, backpacks and small leathergoods by designer Candice Lau are among the various leather pieces which will be offered for sale.
CEO of Cockpit Arts, Annie Warburton, said: “These past months have brought about a universal reappraisal of what we value: the importance of community, howe we spend our time and where we spend our money. Slowing down as we locked down, we rediscovered the pleasures of making - with a renewed appreciation of the exceptional skill of people who’ve dedicated themselves to their craft.
“Buying direct from an independent maker is a statement of belief in skill, care, and the enduring power of creativity as a force for good in the world,” Ms Warburton continued.
