Meat Standards Australia has record-setting year
Meat Standards Australia (MSA) graded 3.8 million cattle in 2019-2020, the highest number of cattle graded in a year since MSA’s inception in 1998.
According to Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), this was increase of 3% over the previous year.
MLA said Queensland processed the highest number of graded cattle with 1.8 million head, and South Australia had the highest proportion of the state slaughter with 90% MSA graded. Victoria saw an increase of 17% of cattle being MSA graded.
According to MSA programme manager David Packer, the group’s latest annual outcomes report showed that it delivered an estimated $172 million in additional farm gate returns to MSA beef producers in 2019-20.
