Leather UK: Prepare for end of Brexit transition

23/09/2020

Leather UK is reminding members of the British leather industry that the transition period for Brexit is coming to an end and that customs grants are still available.

As stated by the Department for International Trade, the UK will leave the European Union’s Single Market and Customs Union at the end of the year, and businesses should be preparing for the trading rules that will come into effect from January 2021.

Specific recommended steps include everyone visiting Gov.UK/transition for information on actions businesses should take; exporters and importers learning how to continue doing business with the EU; and everyone signing up for email alerts to stay informed up additional changes.

There is also £50 million available in grants, as part of the government’s Customs Grant Scheme. Organisations can apply for funding to offset costs associated with increasing capacity and completing customs declarations.
