Lab-produced meat: Australia’s Gen Z consumers want more transparency

16/09/2020

Laboratory-produced meat alternatives hold little emotional and intellectual appeal for most Generation Z consumers in Australia, according to a new study.

Researchers at the University of Sydney and Curtin University in Perth have published a joint study that shows that 72% of consumers aged between 18 and 25 are not ready to accept synthetic meat.

Lead researcher, Dr Diana Bogueva from the University of Sydney’s school of chemical and biomolecular engineering, said she thought the main reason for this lack of engagement was that young consumers require greater transparency about the environmental and other benefits that producers of the meat alternatives often claim.
