1938 Bugatti wins inaugural Bridge of Weir design award
The 2020 edition of high-end automotive event Salon Privé Concours d’Elegance went ahead at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire at the end of August.
Automotive tanner Bridge of Weir Leather was a prominent participant, contributing to a display of iconic cars, an all-new design award and the surprise debut of a new Aston Martin.
At its own enclosure at the event, Bridge of Weir hosted iconic vehicles including the McLaren Speedtail, Aston Martin One-77, David Gandy’s Jaguar XK120, Ford GT, Callum Vanquish 25 and McLaren GT. “Each represents outstanding automotive design and Bridge of Weir is proud to have supplied bespoke leather to them all,” the leather manufacturer said.
This year, the leather manufacturer decided to honour one standout car in a newly inaugurated design award; its aim was to give recognition to “remarkable exterior and interior design”.
The winner, the one-of-one 1938 Bugatti Type 57 Atalante Coupé by French coach builder Gangloff, featured a black-over-purple two-seat coupé body. The car is owned by a private collector. The trophy for the award was a gear lever wrapped in Bridge of Weir leather.
Managing director, David Archibald, said: “We were very proud to celebrate the best of the best in automotive design. We were delighted to display so many fine examples at our enclosure.”
