Double-digit H1 declines in volume and value for Brazilian leather
Brazil’s leather industry registered exports of 59.2 million square-metres of finished leather, crust and wet blue in the first half of 2020, bringing in revenues of $446.7 million.
These figures, published by national tanning industry association CICB, show a fall of 21.3% in volume and of 28.9% in value compared to the first six months of 2019.
Shipments of wet blue fell by 24.3% in volume to 27.2 million square-metres, while those of finished leather declined by 21.9% to reach 26.5 million square-metres. Exports of crust increased in volume by 4.3% to reach almost 5.4 million square-metres.
Wet blue commanded the largest share in terms of volume, 46%, but only 23.9% of value. Finished leather accounted for 44.9% of volume, but 58.3% of value.
