Former Hermès workers are among ten people who have appeared in a French court for their involvement in the manufacture and sale of fake Hermès handbags between 2013 and 2014.

The network made a profit of more than €2 million, as reported in the Guardian. Those involved allegedly made dozens of counterfeit bags, including Birkin bags, which were sold for €23,500 to €32,000 each.

Among those in court, according to the Guardian report, seven were working at Hermès, one of whom supplied jewels to decorate bags and several who incorporated the brand’s signature saddle hand-stitching. Another defendant was said to manage imports of crocodile skins from Lombardy, Italy, which was used to make the fakes.
