Scottish leather goes into Beijing school project
Design consultancy Luke Hughes has completed a refurbishment project at a school in Beijing, the Keystone Academy.
London-based Luke Hughes completed the formation of its Chinese subsidiary last year and has now brought a project to redesign two lecture theatres at the school to a successful conclusion.
Located in the Shunyi district of Beijing, the school offers primary, middle and high school education. Luke Hughes said it worked with the school’s three key values in mind: combining Chinese and English languages, building character and community and promoting Chinese culture and identity in a world context.
It designed a new concept for the interior as well as all the furniture for two lecture theatres. Its partners in China made the furniture under supervision from Luke Hughes and used European oak panels, Scottish leather and Taiwanese stainless steel.
The leather came from specialist, Glasgow-based upholstery tannery Andrew Muirhead & Son.
