Video series will explain PrimeAsia supply chain programme in more detail

Over the next month, tanning group PrimeAsia will be launching a series of videos and interviews to provide deeper insight into its recently announced Responsibly Raised programme.

The initiative aims to help PrimeAsia identify and promote projects and partners that can help it bring about positive change and enhanced transparency in the raw material pipeline. Examples will include better use of resources, stricter labour conditions and sound animal welfare standards.

Processing the bovine hides that become available as a by-product of the meat and dairy industries into leather in a responsible manner is “paramount to ensuring a sustainable and circular value chain”, PrimeAsia has said. And while the leather industry continues to take positive strides towards greater sustainability, the group believes it’s increasingly important to create close partnerships on both sides of the supply chain to generate further improvement.

The new series of videos and interviews will be available on the company’s website and social media channels. They will discuss partnerships with suppliers, enhanced traceability, animal welfare, transparency and environmental efficiencies.

Chief executive, Jon Clark, said: “It is a matter of mindset changing. We understand the responsibility of the leather industry in the food supply chain, upcycling a by-product and transforming it into an important material. We are proud of that. However, it is time to change the way we approach things. We do not want to keep talking about our role in recycling that by-product; this is an intrinsic part of our existence. Instead, we want to focus on how our behaviour and actions with our suppliers can generate improved practices, not only in our industry, but upstream in the supply chain, all the way to the farm level.”
