Plan for separate business units progresses at Burberry
Luxury brand Burberry has taken a first step towards fulfilling its strategy of setting up separate business units for ready-to-wear, accessories and footwear. It has appointed Adrian Ward- Rees as its new head of ready-to-wear and has promised that appointments of people to take up similar roles in accessories and shoes will follow.
Mr. Ward-Rees worked in merchandising at Burberry earlier in his career but has been head of menswear at Dior for the last four years. He returns to Burberry on July 20.
Commenting on the appointment and on the strategy behind it, chief executive, Marco Gobbetti said “embedding product specialization” would enable Burberry to increase the quality of its products, increase its agility and set itself up for future success “as markets begin to recover”.
