Uzbekistan leather event to take place in October
A showcase event for the leather industry in Uzbekistan will go ahead again in Tashkent in October. The event, UzCharmExpo, will take place from October 20-22. It previously took place in 2018 and 2019.
Raw materials, finished leather and finished products such as shoes, bags and garments will be on display. Charm is the Uzbek word for leather.
The country’s main leather industry association currently has 529 members, although few of them are big, and says there are hundreds of other leather-sector operators in the country that have still to join.
Most neighbouring countries import the majority of leather products their consumers buy. Kazakhstan imports more than 90% of these products, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan each import more than 80%. Uzbekistan, in contrast, has decided to make its own.
