Burberry keeps China in its sights

Burberry brought in revenues of £719 million over the quarter, an overall increase of 1% compared to the same period a year earlier.
It said its results had been affected by disruption in Hong Kong. In publishing its results for the quarter, Burberry made a number of references to the market in that part of the world.
It said its campaign for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, which it launched at the end of December, had generated “a strong early consumer response”. At the same time, it said preparations are already under way for it to take its autumn-winter runway show to Shanghai; that event should take place in April.
Finally, it said it will enter into a partnership with online retail group Tencent to open a retail store in Shenzhen, immediately across the border from Hong Kong, in the first half of next financial year.
