Tanning group PrimeAsia  has appointed Fernando Bellese as its new chief sustainability officer. He takes the place of Sarah Swenson, who left the role in May to join functional materials and labelling technology group Avery Dennison.

Mr Bellese joins the Exeter, New Hampshire-based group from the leather division of JBS. He spent eight years at the group, in his native Brazil and, more recently, in the US, leading many of its sustainability efforts.

He has also been active in the leadership of a number of global leather industry initiatives, including the Leather Working Group and Leather Naturally.

PrimeAsia is a specialist supplier of leather for casual and athletic footwear and includes most of the biggest footwear brands in these markets among its customers. It runs major tanneries in Huangjiang, in China’s Guangdong Province, and in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province in Vietnam.
