Australia reports booming beef and sheepmeat exports

Strong demand for Australian beef led to record exports to China in October, the second largest month of the year, according to Meat and Livestock Australia.

Year-to-date beef exports have exceeded 1 million tonnes, a level not seen since 2014 and 2015.

Sheepmeat exports from Australia in October were the largest for any month on record (dating back to 1994) at 46,500 tonnes.

On a volume basis, Japan has been the top destination for Australian beef for the past three years. However, surging demand from China is creating more competition.
