Danish firm makes light work of Poltrona Frau leather
Specialist leather furniture manufacturer Poltrona Frau has found a novel use for some of its Saddle Extra leather. Slim straps of the leather have gone into a new interior design idea, a collection of lamps that is the fruit of a partnership between the furniture brand and Danish interior design firm GamFratesi.

In this collection, Soffi, each lamp consists of two globes of blown glass. An outer globe is coloured in milky white or faded grey tones. The inner globe, which holds the light fitting, is more solid.

The light produced by the lamps is evenly diffused and gives what GamFratesi has described as a “gradual transparency” to the outer glass, to produce “a magical and harmonious effect”, but, owing to the fact that each hand-blown globe is different, with what Poltrona Frau has called “nuances and irregularities in the shape of the light”.

For its part, the leather strap circles the neck of the outer globe like a collar. And the leather also features in the chandelier composition above the globes. Two concentric rings of different diameters accommodate the wires for each set of lamps. These rings are also covered with Saddle Extra leather.

The lamps are available in three sizes, small, medium and large, and can be arranged different configurations.
