Discussions continue in Bangladesh about the possibility of setting up a new leather manufacturing cluster near the city of Rajshahi. The city is 245 kilometres west of Dhaka and lies on the Padma river, which, here, forms the border between Bangladesh and India.

A meeting took place in mid-July between the chairman of government industry promotions body the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), Mustaq Hasan, and the mayor of Rajshahi,  Khairuzzaman Liton.

Mr Hasan told the mayor that the leather industry could create “huge employment” in the region.
