Coach brand takes up residence in Spanish shoemaking town

US leathergoods group Tapestry has relocated the headquarters of its Coach brand to Petrer, one of Spain’s most important shoe-making towns and long the manufacturing hub for another of its brands, Stuart Weitzman.

The two brands will now share a head office in the town. It is the latest phase in Tapestry’s efforts to restructure its operations in Spain, which it took control of in 2013.

The group opted to keep Stuart Weitzman’s shoe production in Petrer when it acquired the brand in 2015. Reports in local media suggest it manufactured 1.7 million pairs of shoes there in 2018 and that in the next three years the brand wants to increase production by around 50% to 2.3 million pairs.

The Coach brand has also recently started making shoes in the town. A four-person team is currently responsible for producing the 1941 capsule collection, with a capacity of around 12,000 pairs per year.
