Oeko-Tex to present its leather standard at Gallery Shoes in March
09/01/2019
As part of a range of seminars at the event, Oeko-Tex will present the standard on the afternoon of March 11. It will tell the audience, made up mostly of shoe retailers and buyers, that manufacturers in the leather sector “can now prove that they produce sustainably and communicate this fact
transparently, credibly and easily to the outside world”.
Oeko-Tex introduced its leather standard in 2017. The standard complies with key statutory regulations and tests for numerous chemicals that are potentially harmful to health.
During certification, leather products are tested for formaldehyde, heavy metals such as chromium VI, arsenic, lead and cadmium, pesticides, chlorinated phenols, phthalates, processing agents and preservatives, PFOS, PFOA, as well as banned Azo colourants and other colourants.
