Kering to take control of its e-commerce operations

27/11/2018
Luxury group Kering has announced a series of new initiatives that it says will help further develop its digital activities.

It has revealed that e-commerce represented 6% of its total retail sales in the first half of 2018 and that this is its fastest growing sales channel.

As part of its new digital strategy, Kering will take full control of its e-commerce activities. They are currently handled through a joint venture with luxury retailer Yoox Net-A-Porter (YNAP). This partnership will come to an end in the first half of 2020 after seven years. It has said it will continue to develop relationships with third-party e-commerce platforms “when relevant”.

The group also announced it has created a data science team to improve the service its houses provide to their clients. In addition, it is currently forming a China-based client and digital team to adapt digital practices to the Chinese market and to identify and promote innovations from China in other regions.

Kering’s chief client and digital officer Grégory Boutté said: “These exciting new initiatives have been designed to meet - and exceed - the needs of our Houses’ customers and to ensure we continue to offer them an exceptional experience across all channels in a fast-changing global market. These opportunities have been made possible by the experience and know-how that Kering has gained over the years, notably through its successful joint venture with YNAP. We will continue to work with them post-transition and to enjoy a fruitful relationship.”
