Burberry will end destruction of unsold products

“This commitment builds on the goals that we set last year as part of our five-year responsibility agenda,” the company said. One of the three goals it has set itself is to become carbon neutral and revalue waste.
On making the announcement, Burberry highlighted its work with leathergoods brand Elvis & Kresse, which will use 120 tonnes of Burberry leather off-cuts over the next five years to make its products.
Burberry chief executive, Marco Gobbetti, said: “Modern luxury means being socially and environmentally responsible. This belief is core to us at Burberry and key to our long-term success. We are committed to applying the same creativity to all parts of Burberry as we do to our products.”
In its most recent annual report, Burberry said it had destroyed finished products worth £28.6 million. This is an increase from the £26.9 million reported in the previous year and the £18.8 million reported in 2016. The 2018 figure included more than £24 million in ready-to-wear products and accessories. This revelation sparked protests at its shareholder meeting in July.
