Roundtable to develop responsible leather assessment tool

18/07/2018
The Responsible Leather Roundtable that will launch formally on October 12 is the result of work that non-profit organisation Textile Exchange has done in the last couple of years, leading to the
opening in June of membership of Roundtable.

According to Textile Exchange, companies that have joined already include Mulberry, VF Corporation, Deckers, Smit & zoon, Scottish Leather Group and Ikea. The group is now working to set up a ‘responsible leather assessment’ (RLA) tool to provide a framework “for brands to evaluate the responsibility of their full leather supply chain”.

It has said the new tool will recognise “the many existing standards, programmes and tools” that already exist.
